affirming psychotherapy & coaching

We know choosing a therapist or coach can be challenging.

The right fit and ability to connect with and feel deeply seen and heard is intrinsic to making the progress you hope for. When we misunderstand you and you tell us, we have an opportunity to do the most important and healing relational work: to repair ruptures and deepen intimacy. This part of the work is where transformation happens. It can be hard to take these risks sometimes, but we will help you find your voice and learn to speak honestly and leave self-betrayal (a.k.a. people pleasing) in the past.

psychotherapy

We are licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFTs) in the State of California. If you will have our sessions while in California, psychotherapy would make sense for you. We offer sessions remotely throughout the state of California via secure telehealth platform (Simple Practice). We also offer in-person options, including walk-and-talk in the Los Angeles/Santa Monica areas. Let’s talk about what works for you and your lifestyle.

coaching

As coaches, we work slightly differently, in that we focus almost exclusively on the here and now and your current and future goals. As coaches, we do not offer diagnoses, and we cannot provide Superbills for insurance. Like psychotherapy, coaching can focus on adjusting to life transitions (such as going to college, moving to a new community, retirement), relational challenges (including neurodiversity or other forms of otherness, betrayal trauma, exploring whether to end or change relationships including families and doing so consciously, blending families), how to adjust to changing life circumstances, or any number of challenges and goals. Whatever you are facing, we look forward to meeting you and co-creating your path forward.

Areas of Focus

  • Neurodiversity including allistic and autistic as well as other neurodivergent people with experiences (such as ADHD, gifted/highly gifted, creatives and highly sensitive individuals, OCD, TBI, PDA pathological demand avoidance/pervasive drive for autonomy), RSD (rejection sensitive dysphoria), misophonia, aphantasia, alexithymia, and multiply neurodivergent (such as Autistic-ADHD, commonly known as AuDHD, 2e [“twice exceptional”], etc.).

  • Big and small T trauma, stage of life transitions, relationship with self, including physical body, health, personal goals, identity, and fulfillment

  • Families of choice, fertility and post-partum (medicalization, gestational carrier), co-parenting, single parenting, and blended families, betrayal trauma, complex issues of grief and loss including those related to fertility concerns/ART, miscarriage, abortion, relinquishment, and adoption

  • Transformations: navigating life-changes and identity shifts

We learn who we are in relationship to others, and our identities shift and change throughout life. We communicate information about who we are both explicitly and implicitly through our age, gender and pronouns, race, family roles, sexuality, partnership status, neurotype, beliefs, bodily abilities, and more. Throughout life, some of those identities can change, sometimes by choice, sometimes not: gender transition, sexual expression, becoming or not becoming a parent, divorce, surviving a loved one’s death, experiencing injury or illness (including mental illness), identifying or being diagnosed as neurodivergent, and so many more experiences can have life- and identity-changing impact.

other wise is here to support you as you make meaning of your experience, including updating and living into your own relationship with yourself. We want to understand who you were and celebrate who you are now.
